Hi from Scotland!

Post: # 123480Post agapanthus »

Hi! My partner and myself moved here about 8 months ago. We have a small cottage and about 3/4 acre of land. We have quite a few chickens, four geese , 6 turkeys, 8 pheasants, 2 dogs and 4 cats! Managed to grow a fair bit this year but not as much as we would have liked....this due to the fact that the ground was'nt ready....but we are hoping to get more to grips with it next year. Have just had a polytunnel delivered.....anyone in the Fife area want to give us a hand erecting it?? ...just kidding!!!

Hi

I'm new too. I note you've got some turkeys, I'm getting two this weekend (for Xmas) and am really interested what feed you give them. The stuff i've been advised to feed them I'm sure is full of nasties. I want to feed them wheat, maize and scraps. Would that be ok. They will be free to range during the day. I've kept chickens for a couple of years now, but never had turkeys. Will they mix ok as my chickens free range. I will be keeping the turkeys in separate housing though.

Any advice would be really welcome.

Thank you
Daisy

Hi Daisy! We feed ours with turkey growers....I'm sure you can get organic feeds for them, but be prepared to pay a lot more. Corn and wheat will be fine.We would love to be able to feed all our animals on organic produce but unfortunately funds don't allow it.
How old will your turkeys be? It's about 12 weeks before christmas and if your turkeys are very young you would probably have to rear them on intensive growers food.
A lot of people do raise choox and turkeys together, but again it depends on how big the turkeys are. If they are very young they could get bullied.
Hope this helps. :queen:

Hi from a wee bit further north than you :flower:

We've also got chooks and geese, along with ducks and goats.

Hi agapanthus

Welcome from the highlands.

We, too, started our veg patch and installed a polytunnel. The locals still have a book on where it'll be found after the hard winter winds we have up here. But we remain quietly confident.

Hiya Agapanthus - welcome to the site!

There's a few Fifers on here, I believe... Maybe just invite them all to a work party - i.e., they provide the work, you provide the party?
