Hello Emma welcome to the site.
I am growing two types of beetroot this year and should hopefully have at least 50 plants. I find that it is really easy to grow so hopefully you should have some luck this year, I have my fingers crossed for you.

I grew beetroot last year and found it worked really well. Most of mine came out pretty small (I'm sure I didn't thin them out early enough) but they were edible and very tender (being small also kept down the cooking time).
It's a great plant and also very ornamental in it's own way (beautiful leaves).
What variety of beetroot are you growing?
Wulf
