Expected downtime soon due to moving servers
We have cobbled together just enough cash to move servers. A BIG thank you to all who bought t-shirts or/and donated cash. It will mean a lot less problems as the new server runs slightly differently (on linux rather than windows) so the forum incombatility issues will be eliminated.
The hosting company will be doing all the necessary to get the forum back up, (we send them a dump file and they configure the forum). It will however take 24-72 hours before the site can be accessed for the transition period.
I am going to put up a temporary forum on the .tv site during that period. I will post the address of the forum as soon as I have it set up, so that there will be at least somewhere for everyone to go for the 1-3 days. I will give you that as soon as I can so that you can bookmark it, the web address for this forum will stay the same so don't change it if you have it bookmarked.
I will have to choose a day(s) to move across, so what days do you come to the forum the least? Which ever day get voted for the most is the day next week that the process will begin.
It will all be worth it in the end!

I'm normally another "multiple visits every day" person. I've suggested Tuesday, which avoids the Monday morning blues (when you have to fix all the things that broke over the weekend) but should still see things back and running by the end of the week.
What about the stats for the site? What do they suggest?

Monday is not a good day to do it really as that is when we get the most visitors Sunday night/Monday morning. I guess it is people getting over the Monday morning blues, I never really thought that we provide that service to that is nice.
I was personally thinking Tuesday or Wednesday that is when there seems to be a dip.
The new forum is up http://selfsufficientish.tv/phpBB2/ - although I have not sorted out any topics or anything yet. I wondered about keeping it up there with slightly different topics than on this forum? Is it worth it?

It will be too confusing to try and follow two forums, and you can be sure that people won't be disciplined enough to work out which one they ought to be posting a given topic to! I think we probably benefit more from having one forum, so that any given question is exposed to the widest possible range of experience and ideas.Andy Hamilton wrote:The new forum is up http://selfsufficientish.tv/phpBB2/ - although I have not sorted out any topics or anything yet. Actually it is good to have that up for me to experiment with, and for back up.
I guess I could upload the data from this forum for the transitional period then transfer it back up to here after it is over. That way there will be a bit of fluidity to the forum and all everyone has to do during the day or two is use the other forum as if it was here. I am guess I could do that.
I thought that maybe the other forum could be dedicated to people who might want to talk about web tv and such, so a completley different set of forum members.

- Are we in need of some more moderators? I don't want any of the mods to feel overburdened? -Millymollymandy wrote:The strange thing is that it didn't seem to happen to anyone else! I had sooooo many posts to go through this morning!
