SITE UPGRADE

Post: # 281835Post MKG »

As the site migration went so well, and as everything is looking stable ... ... ... our Site Geek (praise his nurdly appendages) has decided that it's time to upgrade the site software. The version of PHP being used is getting on a bit now, admittedly, so he's probably correct. He's thinking of doing it at some point in the next few days, but don't worry - we'll do our best to warn you when it's going to happen.

The last time John tried anything like this it all went pear-shaped, as he'd never done it before. And as it went pear-shaped and he had to reinstate the old software, he still hasn't done it before. Don't let this worry you in any way

It will all go swimmingly and we'll hardly notice anything. It will. Honest. No, seriously - I have utter faith in John's abilities.

He probably knows how the system works now due to previous changes to servers and muchly mending which sometimes makes upgrades easier.

He did. And we hardly noticed

Apparently, it was so quick and painless that we didn't need any notice

There we are, then - Ish is now running on brand spanking new shiny software and John's Geek Cred has increased yet again.

while it was fairly quick it was a drastic fix, therefore:

please report any problems, like things not working, missing images

:salute:

I noticed something a bit odd this morning - not sure if it's a problem related to the upgrade or not.

I posted two posts this morning, but only one of them showed up on either 'view new posts' or 'view active topics'. This one: http://www.selfsufficientish.com/forum/ ... 86#p282018 is only visible when I click 'view your posts', so presumably no-one else can see it listed.

I can see it if I go the the correct page, but not otherwise - it's not amongst the "view new" stuff. Zech, can you copy your post to the mods area in the FAO John section?

It get's even odderer  , I saw your post about inkcaps this morning Rachel. It was at the top of my "view new posts", I well remember it because I was surprised that Inkcaps are a rarity with you, they are extremely common here.
However, I see that it has disappeared from even the "view active topics" now.

As I have no idea what you're talking about I'm assuming I can't see them either.

The section 'Wild Foods and Foraging' has never shown up in View Active Topics, only View New Posts. This is an old problem and one that has been discussed and brought to other mods' attention many times back when I was a mod!

Cool! :thumbright: It's easy when you know how, but I never figured out how to do that sort of thing with the newer version of the forum when I was a mod and didn't dare touch anything like that anyway. The really ancient version was easy in comparison!
