Desert? Weeeeeellllll - no. I think rhubarb is one of the few things that might do slightly better in damper and cooler conditions. (There has to be one thing that grows well here! )

Hi Ina :salute:

Well, here goes again with the poor buggers  I bunged them all in the ground day before yesterday, into the shadiest places I have. They were really big, strong looking crowns and they've been fed lots of cowsh and mulched deeply with the goat's bedding...now I wait , with all my bits crossed. I LOVE rhubarb

Yes, good luck!!! Now I know you're planting in red arid bulldust somewhere 'near' to Alice Springs  I think you're gonna need it! it doesn't even like Brittany summers and sandy soil and I'm sure we get a lot more rain than you do.

You may have to develop a love of chilli peppers rather than Rhubarb  Thats a big ask....has nayone tried Rhubarb in a pot I wonder? At least you could give it heavier soil..... a very large pot like a barrel?

I've always kept it in a pot - you don't want the blighter taking over the garden; especially when the garden in question is a 5m² patch of gravel!!
