As a side topic, I just stick cuttings in the soil and leave them. Eventually some of them will take and others won't so stick plenty in. Mind you elderberry will grow and grow and once you get it you won't get rid of it, lol.

We used to have a lot of elder growing in and around my hometown.
In recent years the town council has been ''cleaning up'' a lot. :(
I want to secure a source of elderberry's for future wines...
Last night I cleaned out a bottle of my home-brewed elderberry port with some friends,
and it was simply fabulous.

That seems to work pretty good so far,the cutting is doing fine.
I do water it daily, since it still doesn't have a proper root system.

Quite a few people seem to take the flowers AND the berries. I love the flowers but have never been too keen on the berries. I might throw a few into a blackberry and apple crumble but on their own I don't find them particularly pleasant. Am I missing something?

No-one likes a show off  There are hundreds of elder trees round here, lining the roads. Only problem is people are such dangerous drivers here, trying to pick them is dicing with death.

... and, as you've already mentioned blackberries, elderberry and blackberry wine. Half and half (a couple of pounds of each) gives you a wine to be proud of. Not that it's ever lasted long enough to develop pride
