Dwarf cherry tree

One website says the Kordia cherry is self-fertile, another tells me it's self-sterile. Naturally, I'm confused - any advice?

You need to find a good gardener who has grown them ... Experience counts.

I see what you mean dt. I've never heard of Kordia so had a quick look round and there seems to be a lot of differing information. They seem to be quite a new variety (in the UK at least).

Even self fertile ones crop better having another variety to pollinate with so two trees might be the way to go anyway. Have you got room for a second cherry? If you have it might be worth it, if not I'd be tempted to go for a variety I knew was self fertile, like Morello or Stella - although those Kordia black cherries do look delicious!

I looked on orange pippin trees, they are very informative and a few others and they all said the same thing that it needs a pollinator

Just looked at some German websites - none of them say anything about them being self fertile or sterile, but recommended varieties for pollination are Hedelfinger, Summit, Bianca, Oktavia, Carmen, Giorgia, Korvic or Tamara. Don't know whether they are available here, of course! But they seem to be quite popular in commercial cherry production - very sweet and robust. Personally, I prefer Morello...

I got a Stella - I couldn't resist, it was reduced to £7.50 in HBase
