Truffles

Post: # 46728Post Monty »

Is there anyone out there who has ever found a truffle?

Does anyone have any experience of truffle foraging?

I'm looking for things like, time of year, susceptible trees, areas of the country, just general info.
Weeds make me mad.

Hi Monty
Truffles naturally occur on young oak and hazle trees in the Autumn. Pigs love truffles and dig for them, they train pigs (and dogs) in France to find them, although I imagine stopping a fully grown pig from eating one once it found it would be difficult  . You can actually buy trees these days which have been artificially impregnated with truffle spore, if you type "truffle tree" into google, you will find loads of info - good luck!
