I was just gazing out of the window, wondering what to suggest using when the cat gave me an idea :pukeright:

Now I've used some fairly industrial strength toilet paper in my time. My Grandmother insisted on using Izal Medicated Toilet Tissue, which I don't think is available any more.
A roll of Izal could be yours. People still sell the stuff on ebay, 5 rolls went for £91 a couple of months ago. :dontknow:

£91 for a few rolls of Izal!!! The only explanation must be that they are into some kind of masochism. I can think of no other legitimate use for that stuff. Makes me clench up just thinking about it. Of course my Nan never did explain about the scrunching of the paper prior to contact. If she had then maybe I wouldn't be so psychologically scarred!

I'm a wee wipes convert. Only for wee though...for number 2s it has to be toilet paper and then a wet wipe.
I'm enjoying not flushing as often using wee wipes. I'm sticking to the Autralian Mantra: If it's brown, flush it down, if it's yellow, let it mellow.

Doesn't perfume or whatever on the wet-wipes get in contact with your sensitive bits?

Unscented baby wipes are a permanent fixture in my bathroom. I suppose that if they're mild enough for a baby's bum, they're good enough for mine :)

Erm, as a student my housemates and I stopped buying loo roll to save money.

We each had a jug by the loo and poured water down behind us and washed with our left hand then washed our hands with soap and water.

Its fairly irrelevant how much you put down the toilet if you are on mains sewage - its appalingly damaging however much you choose to flush out into the ocean where it should not be in the first place!

So...what do you suggest I do in a rented apartment then?
sh!t outside on the flower beds?

By letting the yellow mellow, it's saving water at least, and by using wee wipes, it saves loo roll - therefore, there is less stuff going out to the mains sewage than if I were using loo roll for everything and flushing each time.

We have lidded buckets (remains of washable nappy days) and when they are full we put them on a hotwash
Sorry, I'm going back a bit into the thread. Had great fun reading all this. But (slightly) more seriously, doesn't the energy used by the hotwash cancel out all the savings you made by not using toilet paper?

I remember we used to buy bread and it would be wrapped in that tissue paper. My dad had saved a load of it in his man draw and when he had a goodly wad, cut it into 6" squares and put it in the toilet (removing the toilet roll so we had to use it) , much to the disgust of my mother who said For God's sake Derek, have you gone mad - strangely they divorced not long after this.
