The After Dinner Gardening Book

Post: # 258632Post the.fee.fairy »

I was having a look at some old threads and saw that someone recommended it for me. I bought it.

It is a fab book! But it is out of print, so shop around. Amazon has got them for £12 at the cheapest at the moment and it's only a small paperback.

BUT! It is worth a read. The man who wrote it basically made his own jungle in his house. He grew the seeds from everything he ate to see what would happen. I love growing seeds from things I eat, so i loved the book. It's nice because it's not a 'lifestyle' gardening book, but some blokes experimentation put on paper.

He did a lot of research into how to grow the plants and how to keep them alive, and he does give you some idea of how big they'll get.

I read it on Wombats recommendation - it's a fabby book
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I just searched Amazon for it, there was one used one for £4, so I have snapped it up on your recommendations. Thanks.

i grew butternut squash from seeds from a supermarket squash.
i nurtured them and they grew huge, but never produced any flowers or new pumpkins for me. i was disappointed :(

I think it might have been you recommended it to me Wombat :)

I'm going to have to bring it over here with me in September when I come back.

Indeed, think my 'buy British/local' ethos might get a little stretched with this one.

As far as i remember, I don't think there are photos. I think there are drawings of some of them, but I can't remember rightly.
