drunken vegetable soup from mars

you need: 3 proud carrots sliced thin, 1 huge parsnip sliced thin, 8-9 mushrooms quartered, 1/4 of a turnip in big chunks, 2 medium potatoes in smallybig chunks and similar for squash and broccoli, 1 big red onion diced, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 stock cubes, 1 tblsp non white sugar, 1 bottle of ale, generous amount of tarragon, salt + pep to taste, 1/2 teaspoon of tabasco and some single cream. oh and a big pan.
fry off the onion garlic and sugar til caramelised
mix stock cubes in 1/3 pint water and add along with everything else apart from the cream.
cook on very low heat for 30 mins until potatoes are mashable.
empty access liquid and keep.
liquidize 1/2 of the veg and mash the other 1/2 then put all 3 back together. make sure there is enough salt then add some cream.
serve in bowls with spoons and your mouth will think you are posh.
serves 4
