I know people who swear by Delia's green tomato chutney. It's in the Kitchen Garden book and I think it's in the Complete Cookery Course (not sure cos I don't have it) but this link looks right.

They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

Yes you can make ketchup out of them, nothing promotes smugness like homemade ketchup. A few recipes here.

Fried green tomatoes (as in whistle stop cafe) - you make a sort of batter out of corn meal and milk and fry them.
if you dont like chutney.. maybe you just have not found the right recipe yet?

I used some recently in a mixed tom salsa. Red/yellow/green toms, corriander, lime juice, salt and chillie.
It was fantastic, the green toms added to the acidity that the salas needed. Wont use up much but will give you something else to try.

So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli

You can bake them in a pie, half green tomatoes, half tart green apples, using a bit more sugar than an apple pie recipe would call for, add cinnamon and cloves and use brown sugar instead of caster sugar. Be sure you use cornflour/starch in the fruit mixture, to help soak up the juiciness of the fruit as it bakes. If you need a specific recipe, let me know. The combination sounds bizarre, but it is gorgeous.
You can also use them in a fresh salsa, if your family is inclined that way, using green tomatoes, garlic, onion, jalapenos, salt, and a touch of cumin to taste. Whiz it in a food processor or blender till it's on the chunky side (or more of a puree if you like it that way). You can add some canned green chillies or tomatillos to it for a salsa that can be slightly warmed and served with steak.
Cheers

Drool! Some delicious ideas here. Chocolate cake - well that's got to be worth a go. I bet it's really nice.

I have too many green ones too this year due to the cr@p summer. I stick some in a shoebox with a banana and most of them ripen. Less chutney then!
