101 other reassuring slogans...

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

Hel!!! I am shocked!!

Hee hee, I wash mine once a year...... whether they need it or not..... about 2 days before the MIL visits.

I just know she packs one of those white cotton gloves in her case & checks things like the picture frame tops.....

The first year she ever visited was just before xmas - instead of dusting the piccy frames, I went round & put tinsel on every frame, door frame, mantelpiece, etc!! Anything to put off getting the duster out!

You've not got the hang of this at all.

Let her bring her cotton gloves and at the first tut, hand her the duster and tell her (eyes suitably downcast) that she can "achieve in half an hour what it takes me days to do, and even then it's not as good".

It'll either - only happen once and she'll never complain openly again (so it needn't bother you)
or - she get you pegged as a scruffy cow and come prepared to clean the house (so your house gets cleaned for free)

Either way you win! Just make sure your OH is in on it, otherwise she'll have the wedge to drive in.

Sorry, did that make me sound devious! You betcha - lessons learned long and hard.

And just to keep on topic

An ancient Indian proverb suggests a universal law:

31) Cleaning something is always involved with dirtying something else.

I guess at this point the reassuring slogan has to be "A house isn't a home until you can write "I love you" in the dust!"
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

My mother :bootyshake: washes her skirting boards every week, but says it's not a chore as she does them at the same time as scrubbing the carpets

Just take two aspirins and go to bed...it'll either get better or drop off, either way, problem solved.
