101 ways to lose a few pounds before Christmas

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

101 ways to lose a few pounds before Christmas

Postby LBR » Tue Oct 07, 2008 1:52 am

Okay, we all have those resolves. I'd like to be sleeker this fall.

Here goes:

1. No eating before bedtime.
2. Rest enough to know the difference between being tired, and being hungry.
3. Drink a glass of water. Wait a while, then drink the milk or eat, if you still really want something.

4. Hold your stomach in and sit/stand up straight. Uses more muscles and helps you tone up.
5. Walk up the stairs instead of using the lift.
6. If you work, go for a walk at lunchtime instead of grabbing a sandwich at your desk.
7. Walk or cycle at least part of the way to work or the shops.
8. If you already walk or cycle, then carry some extra weight when you do. Take the telephone directory for a walk.
9. Cook your normal mean but only serve half the portion. Reheat the other half later if you are still hungry. Often we eat everything on the plate just because it is there.
10. If you feel the munchies try doing something physical. Even just running up and down the stairs a couple of times can help to curb your appetite.
11. If you can, use the toilet upstairs when you are downstairs (or vice versa) instead of the one on your floor. Forces you to walk up and down stairs when you don't need to.
12. Move your home computer onto a shelf so that you stand up to use it. Standing uses a lot more calories than sitting.
13. Get your OH involved (nudge nudge wink wink).

There you go, I know all the theory, why can't I put it into practice?

Cheers

14. Don't skip breakfast
15. Don't properly diet to begin with as the treats seem even more tempting than usual, take things one step at a time
16. Invest in a Nintendo Wii, you can have a lot of fun losing weight then
17. Don't punish yourself if you haven't lost as much as you hoped remain positive
18. Jog to the kebab shop instead of walk
19. Don't eat like a hobbit
20. Don't count a chocolate orange as a portion of fruit
21. Although it seems to work very efficiently don't take the Amy Winehouse diet
22. Love who you are including your curves if you go into diet with a sense of absolute disgust as it won't matter how much weight you will lose it will not be good enough

lol @ sleepyowl

I lost lots of weight before my wedding on the 'milk chocolate chip cookie diet'
No milk, no chocolate, no chips, no cookies (and none of the other foods closely associated with them, except yogurt)
I came up with it myself and I would never use any other mad dieting regime, counting calorie or points and eating low fat crisps is just avoiding the fact that you eat too much junk.

The other time I lost weight was when I was refurbishing my flat and I would make pots of soup and freeze them in individual servings. I could eat a small bowl of soup and a slice of bread in 20mins and get back to work. That was lunch and dinner for at least a month.

I have also lost weight by having food poisoning, though I wouldn't suggest it :pukeleft:

Now if anyone can tell me how to loose the muffin top of flab residual from my humongous bump when preggers please do share... I swear that I still look several months pregnant, 2 years on.

For me it's simple (but not easy). Due to constant indigestion I gave up wine for a month and I'm now about 2K lighter! - yes, I drank alot of wine :drunken: . I have now discovered the concept of A glass of wine as opposed to the drink-it-till-its-all-gone regime. I'm told I am now a cheap date as I get as squiffy on a glass as I used to on a whole bottle. Not so much fun but I do feel better. ww.

That's a brilliant idea! So easy to remember, too...

I would have to adjust it for me a bit, as I don't eat meat; leaving all milk products out might leave me short on essentials. Cheese is the worst enemy of weight loss for me - but "the cheese chocolate chips cookie diet" doesn't sound quite so good!

I'll skip the food poisoning, and the alcohol diet.

Shall we say,

28. Dont go shopping when you are hungry, or you will buy lots more naughty food.

29. If you dont buy it and put it in the cupboard, then you cant eat it when you get the muchies.

30. Keep a bowl of salad ready prepared in the fridge. That way, when you get the munchies, it will be (hopefully) the most convenient thing to eat.

33. Make a deal with a neighbor. I'm giving up potato chips (crisps) and he's giving up sodas and ice cream.
