101 things to do instead of watching television

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

64) weed, an other 'braindead' activity, but much more usefull than telly-goggling, and a great way to relax after a fraught day.

65) go slug hunting

66)read to, and enjoy being read to by, other half.

67) patchwork (wilst being read to, bliss!)

68) bake, so you go to sleep in lovely smells

69)

70) walk the dogs in the Park, after most normal (?) people are goggling at their tellies

71. We've recently been going outside in the evening and watching the bats. We have two that come in most evenings. If I stand still in the middle of the garden they swoop low over my head - presumable collecting the flying bugs that I'm attracting.

72 ? - watch the sun set, the bats fly out, then the owls, then its time for you to sleep!
73 - or there is the long summer evening entertainment of watching a slug eat a buttercup by journeying along a blade of grass which bent down under its weight to the desired height, then bending back completely on itself the slug returned.

75) Today you can spend the evening retuning your free-view box, rather than watching it :)

Sadly, I find time previously spend watching TV is being replace by the lure of the internet. Out of the frying pan and in to the fire, I feel.

Well I have done 3 nights and 1 day at school in the last week (after work and on Saturday) this week and woke up sick today. So that confirms it for me---thinking is making me ill :pale: . Seriously, without drinking copious amounts of coffee and forgoing sleep, how am I going to keep up this pace until April  ? I just hope it's worth the effort and that I get at least a part-time job out of it that would get me out of the office a couple of days a week.

So, with coffee in hand, back to the books I go... :read2:

Good Luck, Jampot.

Hi Jampot,

I have decided to take my love of languages and bring it to others in the form of becoming an English as Second Language Teacher. I have choosen to get a diploma in it, even though with a B.A, a certificate would suffice. I went the diploma route because you get to study things like linguistics and history--both of which I am very interested in. Also, my impression, based on my homework, is that in Ontario, the certificate really doesn't fly as a qualification. Since a diploma programme is available, employers are look for that instead of a certificate. Not that I blame them as it is a very intense programme and only those really committed to professionalism and learning how to be a good teacher would stick out. It's definitely not for the faint of heart. Further,if I enjoy being in the classroom enough, I may eventually go on to get my Bachelors in Education and become a full-time teacher. But right now, I am looking to it as a part-time seasonal job, just to get some class time under my belt and lessen my reliance on a job I really don't care for even though the people are alright.

Continued good luck in your studies, Jampot.

 If I had a "superior brain" I wouldn't be working so hard for it. Well we can't all be Einstein. Some of us have to settle with just o.k. brains and good looks, eh?

Thanks, Jampot.
Have a great day.
