Does anyone NOT have a television?

Any issues with what nappies to buy, home schooling etc. In fact if you have kids or are planning to this is the section for you.

I wish I could get rid of the TV, I am addicted and getting rid of it would be the only way to break the habit. It ios basically my defult form of entertainment, escapism and relaxation. Hopefully when baby comes I will watch less because I don't want to expose the baby to it at all.

when we get back home in 2 weeks time we dont have a TV there and im concidering not buying a new one.
we've got a lap top and will have to use it for the internet as its a vital source of information.
the TV in macedonia is crap anyway, all turbofolk music and shitty american channels. only channels i watch is CNN ( the only english news channel avalible) bomarang for cartoons for the kids, HBO for movies, discovery channels and the local station for the local news and weather. oh and i was watching desperate housewives of fox life ( a shitty american sitcom channel) ( not meaning to be offencive to americans, i dont like brittish sitcom channels either!)
anyway, i can get bbc news online and watch desparate houswives/lost/corrination street/movies ect all online anyway.
at least i hope i'll be able to get iplayer ect from macedonia, although it might be blocked. somtimes on youtube when i go to watch a vidieo it says 'this video is not avalible in your area' which totally sucks! :angryfire:

anyhoo, TV is the stealer of time and makes you fat!
better to do without and get on with productive activites.

Well, quite. What more is there to say? I shall write this down on a piece of paper and stick it to our TV.

In theory (i.e. legally) you can't get iplayer from overseas, but I've heard that there are ways round it...

Yeah - you route through a proxy IP server in the UK.

I can say that quite convincingly - absolutely no idea how to do it, though.

But you all will access the internet via your pc's lol ... hardly doing without, is it?

Why do you all think television is the anti christ?

Isn't it just another means to access information, do you all want to cover your ears and eyes and not know what is going on in the big bad world out there?

I can't stand lots of what's on tv but I chose not to watch what I consider garbage and just watch what I like.

So do we, but with the PVR on the satellite box (no legal iplayer here either), and then at least we can watch it in better definition and on a screen size that's more confortable to watch than a laptop screen.
I'm not sure how strong Freesat is in Macedonia Demi, but that has all BBC, ITV, Ch4, Ch5 etc as well as BBC news channel, all unencrypted.

Like SusieGee, we lacked the self-control to turn the box off when the rubbish came on after the programme we wanted to watch. for us, it's not about 'doing without' the TV, it's about making it easier to avoid the rubbish. What actually prompted us to get rid of the thing was moving to a smaller house - we couldn't see where we'd put it!

Last tv I can't seem to get rid of for a decent price - but now upstairs in the spare bedroom out of the way.

Living room looks better I think as the only electrical thing plugged in is my laptop :D (and electric fire which ain't on) - blu-ray player as been donated to my younger siblings at parents place :D

Quite like this - books a glore here with candles :hugish:

Yeah - celtic dragons fill the space now :D
