The cotton bud with vasoline on it is supposed to help stimulate them to poo if they can't get it out. It didn't work. Maybe it only works on babies. But the vasaline would help her bum heal.

Hopefully she is on the road to recovery by now anyhoo, but just a thought for you. How about trying a toddler seat on the toilet, you could tell her it's 'magic' and takes the pain of pooping on the big toilet away, or using a potty again for a while telling her the same sort of thing. At least that way she wont be soiling herself although at some point in the future the association with it would need to be broken.

There are also things you can get to put in the toilet, they are designed to make boys aim straight. I don't know what they are called but they are like little ping pong balls with faces - you could always come up with some story around that. ie. the face is the toilet guardian who takes all pain away and makes the toilet happy or something like that....

Ah here they are...

Hi, I'm afraid I don't have any answers but wanted to let you know you're not alone! My 5 yr old boy has this problem too - he used to hold onto his poos for 3 days, then gradually increased to 4,5,6 days. This happened despite him eating masses of fruit and drinking plenty. He now has "Movicol" on prescription which means he can't hold on, but the result is he does lots of poos in his pants instead. Strangely, he has always insisted he didn't have tummy ache, even when he hadn't been for days. He just seems to instinctively try to hold on when the urge comes - after the doctor talked to him he said he'd try to go as soon as he needed to, but he doesn't :? . Doctor said it's very common in young children and will hopefully resolve itself... but in the meantime there is a lot of washing!
He's on a very low amount of Movicol each day, dissolved in a drink at bedtime, and it just stops him from causing himself a bigger problem with large poos and more difficulty passing. I take lots of spare pants and wipes and plastic bags out with us (no good for my aim to be greener..)
If anyone else has any experience / ideas I'd also be grateful for them!

I tried her on the potty and she was saying she needed to go but she still wasn't doing anything. But now she's poo'd in the toilet a few times and its normal poo again. She still made a big fuss but i think it's just from anticipating pain rather than it actually being that painful. But we've not had any accidents in her pants for nearly a week and she's back at nursery again and i think she's on the mend  Thank's for the advice guys :grouphug:

That's good news Demi - kids can be funny once they get a bee in their bonnet over something, mind you so can adults  . Glad normal service is resumed though
