Irritated by Observer Food Monthly
This article:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/ ... jay-rayner
Possibly I am irritated as I am indeed the sort of person he is criticising, as I go tripping about wearing Boden and putting things in my Eco Hemp Shopper, however even I in Cambridge which has a lot of middle-class left-wing anti-supermarket people would have difficulty spending £17 on a chicken. It just annoys me when people imply the only alternative to supermarkets is buying hugely expensive food because that is just nonsense, if you buy from non-supermarket shops (in my experience) the food is normally a comparable price or often cheaper for miles better quality.
Also in the magazine there is a huge T***o advert a few pages after this article which makes me cynical :-(. Grrr. Off to make soup from the veg box in an effete and pointless way .

Re: Irritated by Observer Food Monthly
I'm afraid this was, IMHO, a fairly typical, Jay Rayner, useless article. No point to it whatsoever as far as I can see beyond the fee he presumably received for writing the column.
Just in case you've not noticed I can't bare the sanctimonious windbag.

Ah - Jay Rayner.
Any man who can walk with a 5 degree forward list cannot be real. Take no notice of the article - the problem is in his overstuffed ego rather than the buying habits of we lesser mortals.

Same parent company, MMM.
The greater question is why are they giving space to Jay Rayner?

Thanks, didn't know that. About Jay Rayner, frankly I couldn't really make out what he was on about. I went straight to Nigel Slater's basil recipes!

OK, if Jay Rayner's just generally an arse I shall not engage ;-). I don't normally read Sunday papers, possibly I should keep it that way!
I think I have low tolerance for columnists because I read such a lot of blogs where the bloggers are witty, interesting and doing it for free, also often you get a bonus picture of their cat as well.

You do get some twaddle in the Guardian/Observer sometimes but it's still the best paper out there imo.
