I think this is disgraceful. Why don't we send the child to Australia while we're about it?

My thoughts:
1. How many times has this happened before, under the cloak of "protecting the child's identity?
2. Suppose this happened to a British woman in another country say Russia - outcry.
3. Suppose this happened to an American woman - Bigger outcry
4. This must be the most disgusting thing for any woman, to be sedated and waking up to find that her body has been violated and her child kidnapped "legally".
And this happened in England AD 2013!!! Words fail me.

If I thought that writing to my MP would do any good I would. It's outrageous. What's worse is that they won't even release the child to Italian social services let alone what they did to the mother.

Interesting. I had assumed that as the case was being reported in broadly similar terms by the Telegraph, Guardian, Independent and the BBC that at least some of these must have checked their sources. The Telegraph, even if you don't like its politics, is usually reasonably good on facts.
I still think the child should be cared for by Italian social services though.

Without knowing the full details, I wouldn't like to comment as to what should or shouldn't happen. These cases are horribly complex and difficult at the best of times, and this doesn't look like the best of times.
Apparently the chap who wrote the original article has an axe to grind when it comes to social services and family courts. And fact-checking is so passé, in these days of 24-hour rolling news... What probably happened is that the Telegraph printed it first, and everybody else simply reprinted it with just enough of a rewrite to avoid getting sued. There's even a term for it: "churnalism".

I knew I needed a new word - That just sums up the papers and Tv news.
