A good reason to go vegetarian ?

Post: # 285221Post Odsox »

BBC news today ... http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-34032599

Poisonous lambs ?
What on earth has he been feeding or injecting them ?

Contrary to the fluffy week old lambs that the BBC decided to place at the top of the news item for people who don't know what lambs look like, those lambs will be nearly fully grown and been eating grass for months. So what "poison" is in their systems and likely to be in their systems for another six weeks ?
New born lambs in February I can sort of understand getting a shot of antibiotics, but not in August.
I wonder if it's true or a scare story, and if it IS true, how widespread is it, and who decided that after 6 weeks it's fit "to enter the food chain"
Either way I think the BBC ought to report this news item a little more fully.
Tony

I suspect that the farmer is just p***d off about the theft - quite rightly - and is trying to spoil the thieves' appetite for what they've stolen... We had the same problem in Germany with people stealing cherries off trees - you'd often find signs saying that cherries could not be eaten safely as they had been sprayed recently. (And with that kind of spray is makes a lot more sense!)

I find they do this quite often, unfortunately.

I reckon ina's hit the nail on the head. I know next to nothing about animal husbandry but I'd hazard a guess that they've not been treated with anything poisonous so near to slaughter. A little farming licence methinks.

There is an injection they use for flukes in lambs, called trodax, but if it is put into meat and dogs or foxes eat it, they can die, it is toxic if it gets into the stomach, the outcome would be the same if a child ate the meat

Drugs and medication used in livestock have a withdrawal periods "The amount of time necessary for an animal to metabolize it" and if someone has an allergy... well you get the idea...
