what are MSN / Google BOTS???

I keep seeing these listed as online when I am! What are they exactly?? I know it makes no difference who is browsing but I am nosey!!

MSN / Google BOTS are automated software programs used by Google and others, which collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for search engines.

They are responsible for the silly situation of searching for something on Google and coming up with your own post on Ish.
Either that or they're KGB agents. If they still have them. If the KGB still exists.

A Googlebot also ''scans'' the posts for theme words to find matches with his list of advertisers and their products.
Our local gaming-club forum had some fun with it by agreeing on a theme word every week, and see if it would take the bait by keeping an eye on the advertising banners of our ProBoard.
Needless to say some of the more creative posters found hilarious ways of incorporating the weekly theme word in something so unrelated as a Warhammer 40.000 battle report.
