linen hobo bag! Idea yoinked from a $250 bag!

Post: # 191450Post damekiri »

So I recently saw this bag online and immediately loved its shape, but $250?! REALLY?! So I remembered that I had some chocolate brown linen in my cupboard and set about making it in a fit of enthusiasm when I got in from a night shift :dontknow: It took about an hour and a half all in (I am NOT an accomplished seamstress by any means, but I have to say it was incredibly easy! My pictures don't really do it any justice; it's already being used and is full of awkwardly shaped items like books, diary, purse etc... But I promise that irl it is pretty much the exact same shape, and lovely to carry! Nothing exciting but I am excited by it nonetheless and wanted to share it!

Please excuse my large tummy and disappointing back boobs... :pukeright:

I so wouldn't pay that much for a bag, I like yours much better! It's much more the sort of thing I like, that's one of my favourite colours! That green skirt is cute too! By the way, don't put yourself down, there's nowt wrong with your figure.

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments! I am really pleased with my bag! A day of using it at work has shown me that I like it even more than I was expecting but might also attempt (dun dun derr!) a buttonhole! I think something to have the option of closing it when needs be might be advisable.
Nomada and Silver Ether - thanks! That has told me! :D I dunno, I think I have never been too happy about anything that focuses on my "worst bits"; I've come to terms with being a "larger lady" but sometimes it's a bit... Embarrassing I suppose. You'd think that nearly 17 years of veg*nism would have made me into the superskinny, emaciated waif that most people associate with vegans and vegetarians, but no, I adamantly remained a round lady hehe! I too love that skirt! I'm afraid I cannot lay claim to having made that - my sewing skills are not yet up to attempting a skirt! Oh, and Silver Ether... My hair colour can be put down somewhat to henna hehe! I *love* it! :sunny:

I think your bag looks very professional, and the shape is just like the commercial one - well done! Keep looking at the picture to try to work out how you did it... Funny how the appeal of the bag is its lovely soft, rounded shape - but we have a harder job accepting our own soft, rounded shapes (this from one very much more rounded than you!). Why can't we just celebrate our ingenuity, creativity, skill and all-round wonderfulness?!
Be proud!

Thank you! The bag was pretty easy to be honest, I was quite surprised by just *how* easy!
As for the whole ladyshape aspect, I don't so much mind being rounder, it's the lumpy bumpyness that I find so disappointing!
Thank you all for the lovely comments though, I really appreciate them!
