What's the price of commercial cling film - always pondered wrapping my greenhouses in the stuff each winter to avoid countless panes of glass being smashed by the wind.

No idea how much it costs or where to buy it, but you sometimes see rolls of it dropped by the side of the road or in lay-bys. It's used a lot for wrapping things on pallets so sometimes falls off the back of lorries

Looks great - I have one of those little fold away green houses that the plastic split on ages ago, so every year I get the frame out and cover it in shrink wrap and use to cover the first outdoor seedlings. Very light and portable.

I can't find the link right now but somewhere on here there is a fantastic plastic bottle greenhouse too. I have often thought I would give that one a go but whenever I start hoarding plastic bottles my OH grabs them for his beer instead.
2010 is my year of projects - 365 days and 365 projects.

yay my first post! Handy site.
Hmmmm... shrink wrap.....and I'm friends with the local Lidl manager......Bit obsessed with polytunnels myself; have to sneak gardening spend around hubby. Just found you can fill up bags of compost from the local tip for free. Am taking lots of things to the tip at the moment!
I'm halfway through a plastic bottle lean-to greenhouse. I'll get some photos when its a bit more finished! If only the kids drank faster......been saving bottles since last summer

ooh-I'm margo. Thats like, so ME

Did they ever appear on stupormarket shelves? I think they're fab and would be tempted to buy their lager (not my favourite beverage) just for them. But I've never seen any.

I don't think the WOBO ever went into commercial production... but everyone commenting online seems to think its a great idea....

so I emailed the designer John Harbraken and asked him why not. He is "amused" by the WOBO experience and the continuing interest after half a century. Says that the Heineken folks didn't like the idea of suggesting that people in poor countries should drink their beer and then live in the discarded bottles, they also had to make the bottles heavier to be strong enough, so more expensive etc. so the idea didn't make commercial sense.

He also mentioned another architect who recently modified the PET drinks bottle design to do a similar thing - Jörg Stollmann - http://www.icsid.org/feature/current/articles1161.htm

One day one of these ideas will catch on !

Mmm, they're certainly not as pretty as the WOBO are they. Or as sustainable, I would suggest, presuming at some point it'll not be cost effective to make plastic bottles (without wanting to start another "petrol" debate")

It lasted the whole year and then we recovered it again the following and it worked really well. But now we've turned it into a shed and put corrugated steel sheets on it to keep our meat rabbits in.
