Christmas Decorations

Post: # 269987Post green_pea »

This year, as we have just moved into our first proper place of our own (not shared/staff accommodation) and starting all new with christmas decorations as we haven't got anything like that, we decided to make everything ourselves. Most of what I make either a) Never gets finished, or, b) Looks cack, but I'm actually quite pleased this time, so had to show it off. Be good to get some ideas of what everyone else makes too.

So here it is, this is before. Well actually, before it was a wire coat hanger but I didn't think to take pictures:

I'll post more photos as more gets made. I made salt dough for tree decorations; to find the only cookie cutter I had was cat shaped, so have lots of cats in the oven at the moment (sounds dodgy..) and a few misshapen stars, I'll make them christmassy cats.... somehow

I think it is really lovely! Well done! How did you dry the oranges? I tried last year, but they went mouldy! Like you, I am renowned for starting projects, in fact I have a whole room full of them. pbf.

Thanks! I dried them in the oven on the lowest heat, they actually burnt a bit but I think I've hidden most of that with the holly. I have some more that are kind of squidgey in the middle still so might put them back in the oven, better burnt than mouldy I guess!

Lovely wreath green pea.
I've often thought about drying oranges, but I never get round to doing it. I think it's all the other unfinished things I have to trip over on the way to the oven that stops me

How do you get the holly leaves to stay on? I made a wreath last year using holly twigs (a very prickly process). But after about a week the leaves turned brown and fell off

Sorry for not replying sooner, it seemed there was something wrong with my account as it signed me out whenever I clicked send! Anyway, Crickleymal: Pins! They're still going strong too, still green and still very prickly :pale:

Thanks everyone for your kind comments! I should have taken pictures of my saltdough cats, they were cool (ahem) but as I didn't varnish them they started absorbing water in the room and sort of became mush and flopped off the tree.
