Well i've been suffering for the last couple of days with an inflamed right foot and right hand so i thought i should visit the doc's, after an x ray and a couple of painfull examinations he diagnosed me with GOUT   "bloody hell" i said to the doc really' "i'm afraid so russell" he said, now although its bloody painfull i found it really funny, because if you google it it says " a condition suffered by portly men who who have a ponchant for richer food "   portly....... me......... ha ha i'm just a fat bloke who likes his home comforts   , all joking apart it really does hurt as my brothers and my old dad can vouch for, so looks like i will have to cut down on the elderberry port.................................yeah right

My G.P. assures me it's nothing to do with said life style, and just too much something or other acid in my blood stream, but I think he's a bit intimidated by me(he also said my liver was functioning 100%),but what I do know is it's bloody painfull, and I genuinely hope you get it sorted.

Well, you are in good company -after all it was good enough for Henry VIII !

My best bud is suprisingly un-ish - she lives in a flat next to London Bridge and lives a lifestyle not dissimilar to the female equivalent of Tucker Max (american hedonist -gratuitous in every way imaginable). She is skinny as a rake, 27 years old and has recently been diagnosed with Gout !

So you have developed it at a much more respectable age and I am sure it is nothing to do with the elderberry port....yum.

Too much gravy also gives you gout so stay off the Bisto !!

Really? Surprised my parents in law (late 80s) haven't got it then as they've been living off Bisto since..... probably since it was invented! They have no idea how to make real gravy.

It's an old-wifes tale that gout is caused by a rich diet. ( I should know, 'cos my wife is quite young!!). Apparently, gout can affect any joint in your body apart from the elbow...... don't know why. Anyway Russ, i know it's ruddy painful 'cos i've had it across the knuckles on my right-hand. I did'nt change diet or anything, & it cleared eventually. Maybe we're all getting old!!
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

Russ ,what I was trying to say was it's got damn all to do with what you eat,you could be a trappist monk and if you get what ever the damn acid is in too big a quantity you'll still get it.The quack can give you some pills that will sort it.If it was an illness less associated with Hanoverian kings everybody would be a bit more sympathetic,it worked for me and I'm sure it will for you.(but Christ does it hurt !).

Oh Russ :grouphug:

Hubby had his first bout of gout when he was 17 and has suffered from it on & off ever since. In his case he was advised to avoid citrus fruit & juice, but the main trigger still seems to be stress.

could try ground elder, but use it before it flowers or it has laxative effects, it is otherwise known as goutweed.

I'm sorry to hear that tree man. Celery Seeds are meant to do wonders for gout, might be worth looking into?

There are quite a lot of food that can trigger gout, tomatoes being one of them, and spinach and alcohol.
I'd definitely recommend seeing a specialist about this.
