Re: how liberating!
We got out and started our winter tree pruning - thank god for some fresh air even though the sun disappeared after a while. I felt properly alive for the first time in about 2 months, what SAD syndrome? Right watch out I am in my snippin' and clippin' mood!

Same here, it's been pissistently raining since about 8 o'clock last night and still forecast to do it all week, off and on.
Trouble is, I can't keep thinking up excuses why I can't start the redecorating ... today it's "the dust sheets are out in the shed and they would get wet bringing them in".

Humph - it' just dark, damp and cold here Can't wait for springtime, but I fear we could have more snow before then.
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Re: how liberating!
I don't think we will get any more snow here, but the wind is evil so I'm being a wimp and staying inside as it's still cold outside

Good things about this climate:
- The cold kills parasites and blight and such stuff. We can grow very sensitive potatoes up here for example.
- Midnight sun! Everything is so much tastier when grown up here, midnight-sun-strawberries just can't be beaten.
- You can't feel guilty about being indoors and not doing anything. The only thing you could possibly do outside is work the forest or play in the snow (snowboard <3).
Here is a map of where the house is :D

Easier by dogsleigh or snowmobile =).
But sadly, we have no polar bears.... and I've only seen a polar fox from a great great distance. The hares are pretty cool though. Right now I'm in Kiruna, 300km away from the house on the map, it is above the "cultivation-border". You can grow rhubarbs... and stuff in greenhouses, and flowers, but not much else. All the trees are stunted and I'm surrounded by mountains.
Can't wait to get down to the coast, this is just crazy, why am I living in the arctic mountains?
By the coast you can grow pretty much everything =).

Re: how liberating!
Having lived in Australia for most of my life and returned to live in the UK 10 years ago,I spend more time in this country outside than I ever did in Australia!I spent the last two days of this weekend out walking across open countryside, and yes it was windy but wow it was very refreshing! Contrary to popular belief(and yes it does depend alot on where you live in the UK)it does'nt rain all the time, and most days you can get outside.
