Online selling- thoughts?
Etsy or ebay? I am thinking of vintage "stuff"and if my skills pick up a bit perhaps some crafty bits (my craft is the glueing s**t to s**t school...hairclips and stuff- nothing like some of the crafty folk on here)
I have sold a lot of "stuff" on ebay over the years but I was wondering if etsy might be a go too? Has anyone here compared results for themselves? (About to pop over and read the post in the "how do i?" section now)

Hi there,I use ebay alot I do have accounts with etsy and folksy but have never sold a thing!I am told if you are really into their forums and communities you get sales (it's not what you know but who if you get my meaning)I just don't have time for all that with the making the stuff and veg patch and chickens etc so I stick with ebay and craft fayres I go for school fayres as the stalls are cheaper and I have 2 girls so if I have to take them there are things for them to do/see and my clientelle are school age anyway.
Good luck!
Good luck!

As I recall, both Etsy and Ebay charge fees whether the item sells or not. There are a few places that only charge if the item sells, I believe Sense Of Fashion was one, although I admit it's been a while since I sold anything online. The website is http://www.senseoffashion.com

I sell odds and ends on eBay sometimes. Look out for the free listing weekends, sometimes two a month. You still pay commission if you sell - but nothing if you don't.
Growing old is much better then the alternative!

...in fact, it's a "free listing" weekend this weekend, starting tomorrow.

I agree about getting more sales through forums and communities. The people I know who sell stuff they make all started off via friends, family and like minded groups who are interested in the same thing. After a few years they have been able to build up their success (to varying levels) via word of mouth.
Do you have an account on DeviantArt? It's not specifically made for selling stuff, it's more about sharing and promoting art but a lot of people on there do sell their stuff via the site. Creating a basic account is free and you can upload photos of all your work to advertise what you can make and sell. If you're into painting or photography at all they also have a free print service where if you want to they will sell prints of your work and you get a 20% commision on it, it may not sound like much but they handle all the printing and shipping so you don't need to worry about anything but uploading high resolution pics. (If you pay for a premium account then you can set what prices they sell your prints for to increase your profits, but I wouldn't advise bothering with that unless you're a professional.) There are a lot of artists/crafters on there who use it as an advertising platform for the things they sell on ebay and etsy etc.

I've sold on ebay and folksy.
I've found ebay good for things you wanna get rid of and Folksy better for crafty items (although I'm under the impression Etsy is even better than Folksy)
My experience with them is limited though.
