Cycling, trains, walking. This is the place to talk about how good or bad cycle routes are, mention great train journeys, talk about car sharing schemes or husky travel. Anything in fact that is about transport that is a little alternative.
I'd LOVE a horse and cart though... that would be really cool. Can't see it going down well with other road users though who would be forced to drive MUCH more slowly than usual.

I once had a three wheel pedal trike that had a yellow cab ( made out of some old jcb side panels) and I kept getting slagged off for the same reason of slowing down the traffic. I also used to get hailed as a taxi as our town hackney cabs are yellow.... never tempted though.
Never had much of a problem with other road users when I am driving my ponies. Mind you I have never taken them shopping...for safety when you are driving you need to carry a second person if at all possible to order to go to the horse's head when stopped to allow the driver to dismount (otherwise the horse is effectively loose while the driver gets down) or in an emergency, you also never tie a horse and cart up as they are blinkered and cannot see behind them and obviously also a horse & cart together are potentially a large hazard on their own. In other countries you see horses trained to stand for hours loose (as the old milk horses used to do here) but it takes a long time to train that and your insurance is automatically void if anything happens when loose (even if not your fault). where the kids were shut into the back with their governess driving but these are dangerous as unless horse very very very safe as you are trapped if there is an accident.
So they are not terribly convenient to take shopping with you but they are great fun!
Just an idea - could you possibly ride a horse with a "trailer"? That would solve the problem of it being lose when you dismount, and you could get your shopping into the trailer. Otherwise - saddlebags.

I had a trailer on the back of the pedal bike so I'm sure something could be rigged up. mind you the huskies need a lot of exercise so you could do the shopping using a back pack but go on a daily run or even twice daily shopping run.
Having said that would you feel "out of place " or the odd one out if you went to Mr T's and left the husky and trailer outside?? I know i did the first couple of times on the bike but then soon got used to the gawping stares...
Someone in my village shows and races Huskies they have quite a basic 'chariot'... sometimes the kids take it in turns to pull each other up the street on it They don't take it to the shops though... I'd love to see that.

If I didn't have my daughter to consider I'd definitely take my riding horse to the shop with saddle bags, he'd be ideal as he would happily tie up outside and sleep while I did the shopping Have never considered a horse trailer....would be like the state coach that is controlled by postillion riders on the horses. Maybe you have an idea there!
