Quick-fix for sunburn

I got burnt today... DOH!

I get burned really badly - I've been hospitalised before from sunburn... it goes grey and my skin peels in huge chunks...TMI right?

Anyway it isn't that bad, but a few times a year I get small localised sunburn patches where, for whatever reason, I missed with suncream or forgot to cover up... unless I wear a burka I don't see that ever stopping.

So I got burnt today on the back of my neck... I have T in the park tomorrow and want some very quick and helpful tips to get it to die down over night... HELP...

Already did moisturiser, factor 50 (to stop any more burning) and some lavender...what else can I do?

lavender oil and aloe vera are both brilliant at cooling the skin.

Ouch, sunburn is horrible, I got burned a few years back at a Medieval show which if not bad enough I am allergic to the sun and if I don't wear factor 50 and take antihistamines I get covered in tiny blisters.

Wear something with a collar and turn the collar up. Or wear a scarf - anything to keep the sun off that patch of skin. Or a wide brimmed hat!

No problem - it's drizzling today; automatic and perfectly natural antidote to sunburn.

I remember once when we were out somewhere and my daughter (now teenager, but she was little back then) got burnt. We didn't have any after sun lotion with us and we couldn't afford to buy any, so I bought a tomato, cut it in half, scooped out the pips and rubbed the inside of the tomato skin on her burnt bits. It did soothe it for her.

I would also be willing to try cucumber after putting a bit on a small oven burn I got the other day. I found it much more soothing and a lot quicker than standing around for an eternity with my arm under the tap while all that good water runs down the drain. I don't know if it would work for sunburn, but I would give it a go.

Make Black tea and rub on the sun-burn using cotton. do this several times a day. also drink green tea. the remedy for sunburn is to take anti-oxidants

I made myself a lavender shower gel then just caked on E45 at 20 minute intervals until I fell asleep. The sunburn had died right down by the morning leaving me free to wear whatever I wanted for the festival. It only rained in the morning and by 4pm it was hot enough to burn again, I took my factor 50 with me and I survivied

Good for you... Did you get those massive downpours yesterday that we had? It did vary greatly from location to location...

Yes we did, (Monday, I was at the festival on Sunday though ) and we have had them again today.

Today I had just come inside when I heard this horrendous noise, like a truck revving outside... it was the rain

An excellent and almost instant remedy for sunburn is to apply a generous coating of natural yoghurt, leave for about 30 mins and then rinse off. It is almost miraculous in its action and is perfectly harmless toboot

I have heard eating lots of tomatoes stops you getting as sunburnt!?!

I can't remember where I heard it, but tomato is supposed to have mildly anaesthetic properties when applied directly. It did seem odd to me, since they can taste a little acidic, I'd have imagined they'd sting, but when I got my tongue pierced, sucking chilled tomatoes and lots of that chilled tomato, onion, cucumber and garlicky Spanish soup (can't remember the name of the stuff, but yum!) went down a treat!
