I've read that if you do wake up around that time of the night, try not to get up. Stay in bed and close your eyes. Then think of something pleasant and relaxing. It's gonna take a while for you to fall back to sleep if you're used to getting up when you think you can't sleep anymore, but try to "force" yourself to do so. Also don't put your blackberry or iphone near your bed so you don't get tempted to fiddle with it.
