Ouch - tooth ache

I've had tooth ache most of this week - but had no time to go to the dentist. It's been really bad today - I think I may have an abcess. What is the best pain relief until I can have it sorted? I've tried clove oil and co-codamol to reasonable effect, whisky (which I hate :pukeright: ) to some effect and even resorted to sensitive toothpaste. The thing is I really don't know when I can get an appointment, I have a feeling it could be a while, so what can I use that is better for me than drugs and alcohol! :drunken:

Can you get hold of any essential oils? If you can get hold of clove, peppermint and myrrh - a couple of drops of each in about 10ml of alcohol- vodka or whatever. Then dilute this in water and use it as a mouthwash, 2-3 times a day if necessary.

The better quality the better. The clove oil you got from the chemist is not much use really but the real stuff is fantastic.

Cloves

Ibuprofen alternated with aspirin

More cloves

Your doctor would probably give you antibiotics if you can get an appointment with him/ her any quicker.

Sending you vibes :hugish:

Sending you all my sympathy. I posted about toothache on here a while back and am still not properly sorted.

I have found the best thing to take is ibuprofen. You can take one or two tablets up to three times a day depending on how bad the pain is. I did have two courses of antibiotics but am still taking the ibuprofen when needed. In the past I have used cloves but can't stand the smell of the things. I know this might sound silly but sometimes if you gently rub the troublesome tooth it seems to take the pain away, well it does for me.

I do hope you get it sorted soon.

Actually it doesn't sound silly - I've discovered that pressing on it hurts like b*ggery but then feels a lot better afterwards  :dontknow:
First ting tomorrow I'll be calling the dentist and asking for it to be pulled!

Good luck Milims but you might find the dentist will want you to take antibiotics and get it calmed down before he pulls it. Been there, know what it's like and sending you a :hugish: .

Oh dear I have to agree with last posting.

Be careful though my stupid dentist wanted to extract my tooth after I went with the most terrible pain ever. What with me being scared stiff of dentist and having no confidence in him I cancelled. Four weeks later still things not right but I now know that the tooth he was going to take out is not tooth that is the trouble.

Much :hugish:
