When I think of Switzerland (which, granted, is rare,) I always think of Heidi and Grandfather nursing the other one back to health with full fat milk, butter and cheese - all from the pasture-fed cow.

I wonder if they really eat like that? :dontknow:

By the way, I've read the title of this as Fart Chart more than once this morning

Yeah, but you can only eat so much sushi

Hey, I spent some time in Japan, and found the food to be amongst the best in the World. Sushi was only a small portion of that which was offered. My daughter lives in Japan (12 years) and seldom has Sushi. You name it they got it and seem to enjoy all. Probably the best meals that I ever ate were in Japan.

What are those percentages of? Sorry but the scientist in me wants to know more about the reliability and accuracy of the data because at the moment all they represent is some numbers in a list. Is it percentage of elephants? x factor watchers? people who wear hats?

Just a guess until Durgan replies but I suspect it the percentage of the population that are considered obese.

The data is clearly from here, and isn't actually that recent.

Percentage of total population who have a BMI (body mass index) greater than 30 Kg/sq.meters (Data for Australia, Austria and Portugal is from 2002. All other data is from 2003). Obesity rates are defined as the percentage of the population with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 30. The BMI is a single number that evaluates an individual's weight status in relation to height (weight/height2, with weight in kilograms and height in metres). For Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, figures are based on health examinations, rather than self-reported information. Obesity estimates derived from health examinations are generally higher and more reliable than those coming from self-reports, because they preclude any misreporting of people's height and weight. However, health examinations are only conducted regularly in a few countries (OECD).

An Email from my daughter in Japan.

I can count on 1 hand the number of obese people I've seen here in more than 10 years! And if I see one they are invariably white foreigners! Ouch! Basically Japanese have almost zero interest in sweets. You can't even put any sweets in kids lunch. I can't buy any of my fav junk food here at all. And if Japanese have dessert it is usually the size of a pea. And the most popular fast food is salmon with riceball and seaweed. Kids love it! And rarely is there any meat eaten, mostly fish. Totally different diet. Totally different result!

Ciao ciao!

I think I mentioned this once before, but for gas production, nothing can top chickpea & brussel sprout curry. Should be controlled by the Geneva Convention, that.

I'm always surprised Italy comes so low as I always have an image (yeah from telly probably) of rather large ladies (just like in Greece) cooking and eating a lot of pasta. Mind you the last time I was in Greece in 2000 I was amazed at how much women in general had slimmed down from when I first visited in the late 1970s.
