How do I remove paint from jacket?

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

How do I remove paint from jacket?

I've got a thread splash bit of emulsion on a jacket. It has dried on. Is there any way at all that it can be removed?

Whoops! You can try soaking it in a detergent solution and then brushing it off with a toothbrush - but that usually doesn't work very well. Unfortunately, nor does anything else. Emulsion paint is a swine once it's been allowed to dry.

Hopefully, someone else has an answer.

Almost all paints (if not all) are now water based so are fairly easy to get out if you're quick... But as this has dried I doubt you'll get it out unfortunately.
As above I'd try soak it in a warm/hot water with some detergent. You may be lucky.

Looks like I'll have to resort to asking the dry cleaner...

Depends on how precious the jacket is, and how sturdy it is, and what material it is.

If you're not averse to possibly having to re-dye it, then try turps, or nail varnish remover.

If it's particularly precious or fragile, then the dry cleaner is the best bet.

I've had some success removing emulsion with nail varnish remover. But check it on a hidden area of the jacket first to make sure it doesn't damage the fabric. Whatever happens, do it quickly as the longer you leave it, the more difficult it will be to get rid of it.

If you can't remove the mark, can you sew a decorative patch over it or put a brooch or something to hide it?

Not in this case Zoe, but it is something I do with others!
