what pets do you have

Due to popular demand, here is the section to discuss everything to do with our pets. Please remember though to post any queries regarding pet livestock in the livestock section as you are more likely to get the right response there!

I've got Renton, a black-and-white bruiser of a cat who I got in the second half of the nineties, and Sieleidgh ("Sheely", based on the Gaelic for the "Gid Folk"), who's a three year old border collie, and just as smart as you'd expect of the breed. It was a long process to help her be relaxed and friendly with pretty much anyone but me - they're a one-man breed by nature - but now she's the friendliest little social butterfly, even if she's not exactly tame. There's still just a bit of the wolf in the breed.

First thing in the morning she's queuing up to get out the door and run around, and she'll happily only come in when it gets dark. The wife takes her down to the beach for a few hours every other day while I'm at work. She's a canine battery: full of energy.

By the time she was a year old i was able to start taking her and her littermate (who i look after sometimes) up mountains: their record was about 35km and five munros in a day, but they probably did double the distance and half the height again. Only time I've seen them both shattered for 24 hours.

One good thing about border collies is that it only took telling them once to stay out of the veggie patch and they got the hint!

Anyway, her and her sister:

Hi,
I have a 17 week old sprocker puppy called Digger, cos thats what he does  although am sure he thinks his name is 'you little bugger' lol. He is an absolute joy and has filled the hole a little that was left by my beloved Buster, he was a spaniel cross terrier who died in 08 at 23.
I also have a blind indian runner called missy and a rescued goose called Honk  several assorted ducks and hens too

This is our Amber. Our new addition to the family.

Image
We picked her up last night and shes settling in beautifully.

We recently lost a yellow lab in a very tragic accident and we miss him so much.
Amber is a bundle of fun and such a joy to have around.
Working on MY good life!

I sadly had to part with my Cockatiels Jellybean and Squeaky last year as they caused my OH to go into respiratory failure... we were both (and still are) absolutely heartbroken about it, we didn't know my OH has Extrinsic Allergic Aveolitis :( However they went to a wonderful new home with a heated, indoor aviary and were going to be looked after by a very wonderful old fella Billy (or birdman Billy as he was known) so we're happy they live somewhere nice but it's really not the same as with us and I miss them every single day!

Err... anyway... as we had to sell the fish too before we moved I have adopted the crazy Lapwing (Pee Wit) that runs around in an insane jerky path on the field at the back lol. He doesn't know I've adopted him but I certainly enjoy watching him run a few meters in a straight line, stop, look around then shoot off in another direction entirely... repeat ad nauseum all day long. Makes me laugh hysterically, it's like he forgets halfway through going somewhere and heads off somewhere else instead!

We will eventually get some more fish but I don't think I want to go through the upset of losing a pet I was really close to ever again.

There's also a flock of Redwings ferreting about in the garden at the front and the field at the back... beautiful to watch!

I know they're not technically pets but it's the closest I have right now

Edit - Having seen a beautiful Ferret further up in the thread it reminded me I would LOVE a Ferret... actually two as OH wants an Albino one and I like the ones with the wee mask across their eyes so I can call him Zorro
