even as I typed the title ... she mewed... These treats are worrying meaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.. thats the kitty on the key board. What the hell is in them ??? neat catnip. We had some free with a food deal and she really liked them, well we all like our treats. She now crys and howles for them, if we take other stuff from the same cupboard she mewls thinking she will get treats... is so sad to see her .. she is a junkie. after she had two ... her eyes dilate ad sit staring with a scary air air about her. her behviour has changed, very sleepy dose not what to play and something she has never done ,,, she has bitten me twice

That doesn't sound good at all, don't give her any more.

When they're rolling around in the catmint in the garden they might get a bit like that for a short while (which includes being a bit aggressive/possessive of the catmint), but it goes as soon as they move away and they forget all about it. Sounds like something dodgy in those treats.

We have already said no more ... I feel mean like a parents does at times ... but she will get over it ...

I hate the stuff - catnip that is, not tried the treats. Our old Dennis (sadly missed still) would cry if he came near any. It was as though he hated and was terrified of it, but at the same time couldn't keep away!

Well whiskers have replied to e-mail ... the usual twaddle. I don't care what they say the contain summat that the cats cant resist ... so I shall be approaching cat owners and asking if they have tried them and how the cats have reacted.

lol - i aren't try them on mine - he's difficult enough as it is.. only eats freshly caught (by him) or ready meals (tins/sachets) - bringing the side down somewhat when we go to all the trouble to grow our own food and cook from scratch...

this piqued my interest so i did a bit of google digging and found that one of the "ingredients " in those temptations thing is a preservative called BHA/BHT and that in humans at least it can cause behavioural changes it may be the same for cats too ?

Our cats love the temptation snacks also. But they started throwing them up pretty quickly, so I threw them out. Make sure you get rid of the packaging, as the cat may smell the opened bag in your cupboard and keep beging for it.

To unlearn unwanted behaviour... ignore it. Pet the cat - or whatever it regards as a reward - when it ISN'T begging or mewing and totally ignore it when it is (don't even look at it). If the biting continues, I'd check out some cat behaviour site. Many people think it is silly to consult cat behaviour specialist, but I do not agree. There are some quite simple cues that'll give cat owners much info on their cat's wellbeing and some do's and don'ts that could save lots of cats a one-way ticket to a shelter. But that's a different subject...

scary aint it that they turn our cats into junkies to get our cash... she is already more like herself and the damned things have only been banned for a day...

Jampot thanks for the link ... didn't go through the long link .. but the info on the first page is enough for me ... having been though the same with kids and whats safe and not ... Its best to go with what you see and feel yourself ... the "experts" need poaking with a sharp and hot stick...


oh damn ... been looking up the preservatives in the info from jampot ... sighs ... I wish this cat would eat real meat/fish ... she was set in her ways when she adopted us and a poorly looking creature... she is much more lively and playful than when we first met ... so I am happy but NO MORE temptations

glad to here shes getting back to normal ( although what is normal? all my pets are genuinely coo coo!) it makes me sick that any old crud can be put in pet foods even the suposedly "healthy" ones and it doesent even have to appear on any list of ingredients

yea why should there be no info on the packets... do they think we will be scared at the mention of live, tripe and gods knows what else ... we should know what we are feeding the pets. We know its not best steak and pork chops ...

aww she lovely all curled up and sweet ... till her next loony run ... but thats a normal loony playtime ...
