book swap?

Post: # 135275Post mrsflibble »

i propose this. it's like a secret santa, only it's book based. lots of people sign up and agree to swap one book. each person has a different person to send to (hope this makes sense) and each person sends out one book. the rules are thus: it must be a second hand paperback which you have read and enjoyed, but don't necessarily wish to keep. price limit £3 for the book, postage will be minimal.

we send the books, recieve the books, read and discuss... whatcha think?

What an interesting idea. We wouldn't have any idea what book we were going to get?

If I chose books for myself they tend to always be crime novels. So it would be good for me to try something different for a change.

Count me in please.

Cheers

Perhaps give it a week see who wants in then give notice of a posting day so everyone can be ready, then pm a name to the next person on the list , so that everyone has someone to send to and then say "go" all post on same day hopefully receive soon after and read, a bit like secret santa. Is that the sort of thing?

I do like this idea but the problem is I'm a picky reader.

I'll read pretty much anything non-fiction (especially history) but when it comes to fiction I'm speculative fiction all the way (with the occassional agatha christie) but a lot of people hate spec fic. It'd be a shame if I sent someone a book and they hated it or if they sent me a book and I hated it. I think any book swap system would need genre control.

That is you'd ask participants about their tastes and try to pair them with suitable people.

Also duplication would be a problem - what if I send someone a book they already have or visa versa?

I'm sure there are ways round these problems but I thought they needed mentioning.

Becky
