mrsfibble, i have been admiring all the things you have made and wuld like to knwo where you learnt to be so handy on the sewing machine? I have a few skills but not as many as you... am currently in the middle of making a patchwork quilt family tree for my lo (will post it up once its done) but really want to learn to make clothes. is it worth taking a corse?

Have a look on Craftster! Its a goldmine of tutorials for different things
www.craftster.org
Have you got a sewing machine? If you have, get a simple pattern, some cheap fabric and have a go at making things! Start with simple things, lie soft toys that are just two bits of fabric with stuffing in the middle (one of my most cherished soft toys is one like this). Then go on to other simple things to try different techniques. A drawstring bag is pretty simple to make.
The first thing i made was a pair of drawstring trousers (now they're PJ bottoms).
Have a go, have a play and you'll discover talents you never knew you had!!

Re: Home made nappy
I've never been on a corse in sewing in my life! I was taught basic things by my mum and my gran, but it's only since buying a machine and discovering craftster that I've had the confidence to branch out. I just play with things, I know what styles suit my squidge and tend to stick to them, but I do like trying new things like waistbands etc. I also recommend the vogue butterick guide to sewing as it has everything you'd ever want to know about making clothes. if I can't work out a technique myself, I check that.
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very
