Firefox, the selfsufficientish browser of choice

Tomorrow's World was a show on BBC TV about innovations and tech stuff and I thought a good name for our computing and tech section.

Firefox, the selfsufficientish browser of choice

Post: # 133018Post Andy Hamilton »

Just had a quick look through the web stats and found that 47% of our visitors use firefox. I thought that was interesting enough to share. When we first got stats it was a good 80% of people who used internet explorer and firefox was even beaten by Safari.

I'm on Safari now, but much prefer firefox - but I got a new computer and promised myself I would try to acclimatise before I start installing all sorts of gubbins on it.

I use Flock which is powered by Firefox - probably shows up as FF on the stats. I find it most useful for keeping up with Flickr/Myspace/Facebook/email/YouTube activity.

A better, more secure, faster alternative browser to Internet Explorer.

Take a look: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

I'm not overly surprised. I suspect the average -isher is likely to feel happier with a browser that has been created because lots of people wanted to make something free, excellent and adaptable rather than the one created by a huge multinational which has demonstrated some questionable business ethics in the past.

Current versions of IE are better than they were but even there, I think the influence of Firefox has been a major contributing factor. The 'fox is certainly what rocks my browsing world.

That's interesting.
Do you think I might be bu88ering up the stats though, because I have Ish as my homepage, so every time I open my browser, I 'visit' Self Sufficientish?

Hello,

Just thought I would mention Google Chrome
http://www.google.com/chrome

It's much better looking and usable than Firefox and any other browsers.

You can type in your search in the adress bar and will send you straight for a search in Google, the homepage is a thumbnail of your most visited pages .. and it never crashed on me once.

Great stuff
Camile

I'm not sure if they have fixed this or not in Google Chrome but:

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights that you already hold in Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content, you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. This licence is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.

Not good in my humble opinion

Well that sounds to me that Google would have the right to use my articles and pass them off as their own if I was using the google browser as I wrote them. Is that correct?
