101 uses for sherry

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

101 uses for sherry

Post: # 135880Post Thomzo »

Somehow I have managed to end up with 3 bottles of the stuff. Not bad considering I have never bought any. I've obviously reached the age where other people think that single women drink it  Please help.

1. Dry sherry and lemonade
2. In chinese cooking - recipes welcome.

Cheers
Zoe

We put it in a gravy with pigs liver the other week and it wasn't too bad.

6. If it's dry, drink it ( I actually quite like it - and yes, I am a single woman of a certain age  , but I've always liked it!)
7. If it's sweet, use for soaking fruit in for fruitcake.

Try this,

Wipe clean some nice mushrooms
Pop into Saucepan with garlic and butter,
Sherry according to taste and cover, cook for a few minutes and enjoy on toast
I can't do great things, so I do little things with love.

If it's the dry stuff keep it in the fridge and have a glass now and again, it's lovely icy cold!

There's good old sherry triffle

or you can substitute it when a recipe asks for wine

Mmmmm, yes.

If I could handle drinking alcohol at all, I would drink nice sherry. Oh well. Maybe it's a blessing that the stuff makes me feel ill.

Sherry is good in sauces: for meat, pasta, fish, desserts....

Perhaps with some essences of this or that, it'd make good cough syrup.
