Always makes for more interesting TV if there's a pretty face to look at eh? (see also fergus the forager in this category)......

Didn't notice pretty faces .... unless you mean the two students experimenting with fruit based facewash? But the program was very informative, think I might try the chicken soup before I get a cold,

ah well I didn't see the programme but the telegraph link had plenty of shots of a rather handsome young male ethnobiologist....

Just the sort of thing I was looking for.... so I might well buy the book when it comes out - thanks MMM!
I have a lot of things in the gardens out here & while I know that they can be used, it's the actual mechanics of preparing them that I get stuck on. Like Eucalyptus - I have 2 of these trees & lovely they are too - but I'd like to use them for colds, rubs etc - so I shall be doing some research into this area... maybe a new cauldron would help too

Julie, hold your money just yet. I fear the book of this series will be big, glossy and little content.
I was a bit disappointed with the first episode, nothing new, but I'm hopeful it may get better. I can see the constant hand of the lawyers at work - "this may do this", "patch test" blah, blah, blah....it was wearing thin after 10 minutes
But if you want a good book Julie have a look at Kitchen Pharmacy by Rose Elliot and some chap whose name escapes me. And for the beauty side - any Janice Cox book.

I felt it was stuff a lot of people like us already knew and lived by, but I was encouraged that these kind of programmes are becoming 'trendy' and so reaching an much wider audience.

I enjoyed this program, as it is something I am just starting to learn more about. I am newer on my ish journey than some people here, so some of the stuff like hops being a sedative was new and interesting to me! I am looking forward to the next one as it is about flowers.

Ha! Linzi, you MUST know about the sedative side of hops, surely? You only have to look at my hubby after a night on the beer... see, proof!!
Maggie, thanks for that - I'll take your advice & certainly look out for the Kitchen Pharmacy book - and as for the beauty book..... well, why try to improve on something that's perfect....

The one thing that made me laugh was the face mask made of papaya and kiwi fruit, with a good squeeze of lime juice in it.
Much cheaper they said than buying it from the chemist? Are you kidding with the price of fruit these days?

Lush used to do a fresh face cleanser made with oats, papaya, lime and honey:
It looked and smelt like the best fruity porridge you could ever have. I have to admit to tasting it once, possibly twice when I worked there. Unfortunately it was . Lovey on the skin though!

Yeah, I can't remember what special properties those fruits have but obviously something good for the skin.

Yeah we just need to be chewing on home grown licorice root and of course the wonderful porridge on our faces and what about egg yolk, he should have mentioned those, but his roots are chinese medicine.
