melons

Post: # 146171Post Chicken6 »

This year I'm growing or rather try to grow

Minnesota Midget - said to be bred for short summers, sweet smelling and very, very early
Collective Farm Women - early and can be stored for up to two weeks.

Both are cantaloupe melons and both from realseeds so I can save the seeds if I like them

Has anyone had success with these in the past?

I've no experience with the particular varieties you've mentioned, but I've found melons to be a very straight forward crop.

They seem to be relatively disease free, but watch out for mildew.

Good luck,

I bought some melon seeds from Lidl today... can't remember the variety. I have my fingers crossed though.

I've yet to grow a melon that was sweet but they were tasty and juicy even when little and were ripened on a window sill because the plants sucumbed to mildew. Will just keep trying - they do prefer a hot summer!

Realseeds do say to grow them in a PT or greenhouse but as we are ment to be getting a good summer following a poor spring(which seems to be true)
I'm going to sow extra in a hope of growing outside too.

Thanks for all your replies
