New guy from Macclesfield
New guy from Macclesfield
Hi all
I am Johnathan from Macclesfield. I am obviously new to the forum but also new to attempting to be self sufficient etc. I have been banging on about my dreams to have a small holding, be self sufficient as much as I can etc to anyone that would listen. So I thought it’s about time to actually do something and at least learn.
I live in an apartment in an old mill. Looks out over the canal, which is nice. I am looking to use one of the sills in the spare bedroom to grow what I can. It’s a fairly big sill so should be able to cram some stuff on there. Already got the ok from my gf, (the fantastic Sarah) to do that so all good haha.
I hope to find some enthusiasts in Macclesfield or surrounding area. I would love to know where to go and what to look for in foraging and wild food. Hopefully I can read/ learn maybe even some courses etc. but be good to meet people who know, and to see how they grow foods etc.
I have been looking into allotments in the area. However there are some decisions that need to be made before making a move to get one.
My interests are strongman/ power lifting, cars (not very environmentally friendly I admit), music and starting to take action to become more self sufficient.
See you around the forum and hopefully out in the wild haha.

Hi there
We're not far from you, near Leek and also live canalside. Loads to forage from canals, they are the green corridors of England, so you won't have to go too far!
Welcome to the forum, I've learned loads here already, sure you will too!

Hello from me aswell. I am just over the hill from you.
Sorry I cant answer your question about foraging as the only thing I have managed to do so far is go blackberry picking. But despite it being a bit chilly round here, you can grow some great veggies!
