101 uses for broken crocks

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

Might only get a couple for this one but here goes....

1. BReak up and put in the bottom of plant pots to aid in drainage.

Hmmm.

2. Grind it up small and use it as "grog" to improve the shrinkage of clay when firing.

3. Make a mosaic

4. Fix it

5. Bury it in the garden and play "Time Team" with the kids - dig all the pieces up, clean them off and glue them back together again, whilst coming up with implausible explanations for your "finds" "Well, Tony, this is very exciting. It's extremely rare to find an early Etruscan embellished ear-flute in such good condition as this."

6. If things are mostly intact e.g. chipped plates or cups without handles, donate them to the school fair for the crockery-smashing stall.

I'll give you a job washing-up if you like Andy. But I think you're being a little harsh on yourself - you're not a broken crock just yet (sorry, someone was going to say it eventually   )

Loads of things come to mind, but limiting myself to things I've actually done...

8. Tie to end of string for a plumb-bob

9. Use as handy shim to adjust position of camera when on self timer for group shot I'd you can't be bother to look for the tripod

10. Home made anti-bump granules

11. scatter round newly planted seedlings to reduce chance the cat dig them up as soon as my back is turned (mostly seems to work)

Gravel garden or sprinkle along your gravel path to create a pretty pattern.

Use as a mulch for a plant pot to prevent evaporation. Mix with pale coloured gravel to good effect.
