If you haven't done so please could people also write to the Department of health about this. The government has released a consultation document on the statutory self regulation of herbalist. It looks as if the government is trying to back out of this process and they need positive responses be the end of October, otherwise practicing as a herbalist in the UK may become illegal do to EC legislation. We may also loose access to many of our herbs.
This is the NIMH press release that will give you some more information.
http://www.nimh.org.uk/press_releases/u ... _08_09.pdf
I have attached 2 letter templates. If you send a standard letter your response may not count. Please edit the text or personalise of one of the letters (and if using template 2 also send the attached summary of response answers) and send it to:
AHMTCM Consultation Team
Department of Health
Room 2N09
Quarry House
Quarry Hill
Leeds LS2 7UE
In order to safeguard your access to professional herbal treatment, and to allow the public to have the choice to use herbal medicine if they wish to do so, it is essential that as many members of the public as possible respond positively to this Consultation.
When you write your letter please put the phrase ‘cc constituency MP’, and then send a copy to your own MP at the same time as you send your response to the Department of Health. Your can find your MP at http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/ or, if you wish to do so you can contact the National Institute of Medical Herbalists on 01392 426022 and they will help you to find this information.
Please forward this to anyone else who you think may find the time to respond.
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
