Grow your own drugs by James Wong
Grow your own drugs by James Wong
This book is great, theres tons of home remedies for such as coughs, varicose veins, 'womens' pains, and many more. If you watched the program you will love the book.
Its Good to be green but even better to be self sufficient.

I was given the book for my birthday - so far I've made the athletes foot powder and soap for himself. Seems to be working so far . . . .

I think the book seems more comprehensive than the programme. I keep going through the useful plants list for extra tips. I haven’t made anything big from it yet but we’ve been following the advice for growing and using peppermint oil for headaches.

Thanks for all the posts on this - I was thinking of requesting it for my birthday and I definitely will do now

The Book People currently have it for £5.99 (my mum picked me up a copy - thanks mum!) Go to http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/w ... +own+drugs (Oo! That's a long one!) They also do The Victorian Farm for £7.99, although unsurprisingly, that's currently out of stock.

I have this and so far I've only made a lavender bath bomb, it was really easy and worked really well. I've got a big pile of lavender from the garden so I'm going to make some more bath bombs as Christmas presents.

Re: Grow your own drugs by James Wong
so pleased to hear the bath bombs work - I planted some lavender in hopes that I'll be able to make some next year, it's given me some other planting 'for use' ideas too.
however the railway line behind our place has lots of great willow herb - thats not in this book I think

Hi annmary100. Thanks for your input. Why don't you pop onto the introductions bit and tell us a bit more about yourself?

Re: Grow your own drugs by James Wong
i flicked through this whilst standing in the queue at the post office and thought some of the ingredients needed were pretty obscure and not the sort of things you would just have 'around' to knock up in times of need! maybe just me, i dunno!
Re: Grow your own drugs by James Wong
I only watched a couple of his programs then gave up as I decided, like Ayisha, it was more "Get the Supermarket/Local Deli to Grow Drugs for You". If his book's not like that, I may give it a browse. On the other hand, is there a good modern herbal that will do the job in a more practical manner? I have Culpepper and it's very interesting - but it's also a tad out of date

There's a book called Kitchen Pharmacy by Rose Elliot and Carlo de Paoli.
Great stuff, Mike. Have a look at that.

2 books I like
100 best herbal remedies
and
Hedgerow medicine : harvest and make your own herbal remedies
Both pretty straightforward and you don't need a chemistry kit, that I feel you need with James Wong.
