Gardeners World 21/04/06

Do you think The Good Life could be remade, with me or Dave playing Tom Good (maybe not!)? If you have seen something on TV or heard something on the radio recently that you want to talk about, tell us here.

Gardeners World 21/04/06

Post: # 18039Post oddballdave »

GARDENING: Gardeners' World
Channel: BBC 2 102
Date: Friday 21st April 2006
Time: 20:00 to 21:00
Duration: 1 hour.
Today's theme is gardening for next to nothing, and so the team look at some of the best tips for making things for free, with Monty making a cold frame from a non-returnable pallet. He also starts the planting in his shade garden, Carol starts her new garden from seeds, cuttings and divisions, Joe explores the association that British gardeners have with their sheds and Sarah gets lots of dahlia plants prepared for the vegetable garden.
(Widescreen, Subtitles)

Gardening for next to nothing - my second favourite price.
Just thought it might be worth a squint.

Wasn't it just!
Loved the trick with the Lavender plant.
Bury it up to its neck and leave it a couple of months.

End result... lots of new plants.

I missed half of it.. but saw the lavender thing... now I've read that recently on one of the forums... thought it was this one... but yes.. brilliant indeed.

I rescued some 'old' plants from the garden centre yesterday, but have to say that they were only half price and not dirt cheap... still, I will be splitting them and making more.

We should definitely share our tips for this sort of thing!!

Not only the Holiday Prog., Gunners, but all those ones about buying/renovating/building a house. I'd really like to see Phil and Kirstie come to grips with low income people who whould struggle to raise thirty grand, let alone half a mill.

The guy who gave the lavender tip along with the way to propagate multi cuttings for penstimons is Malcolm Hockham of Eggleston Hall nursery near me in County Durham.

He's a nice bloke always willing to give tips (a bit of a nutter).

The nursery is well worth a visit for a day out, its based in the old walled kitchen garden of the Hall, in Teesdale.

www.egglestonhall.co.uk

They're famous for discovering this silver spicky plant that has a large daisy like flower, we bought one once and even though it's ment to be vertually indestructable we killed it!. When we bought it Malcolm asked us if we liked it??, cos he can't stand them!. Bearing in mind the place is absolutely stuffed with the bloody things.
It's not easy being Cheezy
So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli
