Recycled double glazed self watering green house

I thought this might be of interest to members, I made this green house last year out of 2 sets of aluminum framed patio doors (our friends were having new plastic ones put in) another double glazed panel I found in the neighbours hedge (been fly tipped) and the mother inlaws old back door.

The self watering bit I added later by fitting guttering which filled a dustbin in the shed (cheaper than a waterbutt) and then via a hose and tap fitted in the green house at work bench level which drips into a large tray so when we are away it keeps the plants watered

That's brilliant. And what an excellent idea - unfortunately my shed about 20m from the polytunnel, so I won't be nicking it.

You look pretty nifty at growing flowers so I'm sure you can grow veg just fine. Trouble is - when you do get the veg growing bug you'll find you won't get many tomatoes in it - I'd start looking for extension parts now

That looks great. Is it a side-front-roof construction set in a corner? I can't quite see from the picture.

Yes it is just the side front and roof. I have attached a picture of the corner prior to construction.

As you can see from this picture I also insulated the back fence with yellow carpet tiles from our kitchen (not very practical with a dog) and then covered them with timber cladding left over from another job.

I was told by someone who used to work for a double glazing company that they would scrap hundreds of glazing panels like this every year , and if you multiply that by the number of double glazing firms:shock:

I love what you have achieved here , wouldnt it be wonderful if there could be more windows used in this way...I am going to find out what happens to old windows round here....I have used lots of things to make hen houses and such , but this looks really smart .
