Help with peas

Post: # 194181Post george »

I am trying to grow a couple of pea plants in a pot. I bought them as a kit from the shop - pot, soil and 2 seeds (without funigicide on them0.

The peas sprouted ok but now that they are about 20cm tall they are not doing so well.

The growing tips still look healthy but much of the rest of the plant looks droopy and limp and several of the bottom leaves are dying off.

Any hints as to what it could be. Am I overwatering? There are no insect pests on the plants and the stems look healthy.

Thanks for any tips.

This happens to me when I try to grow plants in a pot. I think the pot limits their growth. If you have some land, I suggest replanting them there. Otherwise, perhaps a bigger plot and some organic fertilizer should help!

I am growing peas for the first time ever but outside in the ground but they do need support! That's why they're going all limp and droopy. Suggest you stick in a few canes and tie string around to support them. Are you growing them inside or out?

They certainly do need support, the shortest pea variety that is available up this end of the world grows to about 2' (60cm) with some varieties growing to 6' or more (180cm).
Don't overwater but keep just moist and remember they are a cool climate plant and are not that happy with high temperatures.
Good luck.

Drooping and yellowing lower leaves, sounds like they are under-watered rather than over watered, check the bottom of the pot has it dried out? Its easily done with lots of composts, it look wet on top but iunderneath it can be dry.
