Wild Photo Competiton - vote

Post: # 204759Post Andy Hamilton »

Just for a reminder of all the pictures here are links below. I must admit it was VERY difficult as the pictures were of an amazing standard. I have spent a couple of days deliberating. I did think about having a list of ten but in the end decided on just 5 to make the voting easier. Please don't take it personally if you have not been picked, I mean I personally think every photographer below could make a proffesional carrer from taking pictures if they can as consistantly good as these have been. Anyway best of luck to the 5 below. Voting will close just before 1pm (UK time) on 16th August. I've allowed 2 votes each as there will be two prizes (both very good books) The wild life and wild drugs.

Can we just clarify that the first photo is the Little Ringed Plover on pebbles? The 2nd photo is a Goldcrest in a tree. It is the first one you mean isn't it?

Umm, I don't want to split hairs here (or feathers) by isn't that "goldcrest" a goldfinch ?

Well I wouldn't mind having a half crown bet on that
I have both in my garden and a finch of any sort has a thick short seed eating beak and the goldfinch has a bright crimson patch on it's face.
The goldcrests around here are the size of a bluetit and have a thin insect eating beak and has an orange "mohecan" crest across it's head.

Definitely a Little Ringed Plover though, and very professional pictures of both. :salute:

I'm with you - that's a Goldfinch. The photos are amazing, though, and it's difficult to know where to 'spend' my vote. If I'd read the forum before I voted, I wouldn't have checked only one - which is a lesson to me not to be so hasty!

It's a Ringed Plover not a Little Ringed Plover.

And yes it's a goldfinch but I wasn't looking at the piccy just bird up a tree and what was written in the title. I can tell the difference between goldcrest and goldfinch but I do need a guide for the difference between the two plovers. Saw my first not little Ringed Plover in Spain this year - very hard to tell unless they fly off and you see the white wing stripe.

Anyway so glad the ringed plover is in the final cos it's my favourite and has been since the moment I saw it!

Can we have a gallery of the pics, finding it impossible to view with technical things like page expiring and board unavailable messages. Please.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.
