Shape and colour of leaf looks a bit like a Camillia (but 2nd photo doesn't unless it's pretty well pot bound).Has it ever flowered?

At first I thought Camelia but then looking at second picture thought no.

Going back to the privet idea does it have very small sweet scented flowers, if so I reckon its privet

Thanks people - no, it has never flowered but has just got increasingly tall and leafy. Part 1 and Part 2 are completely separate plants if that is of any help ? Probably not......lol

They'll both be weeds then.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

2nd photo looks a bit like forsythia, particularly the stems, but I can't see any detail in the dinky photos. Please can you post the photos bigger! Also something to let us see what size the leaves are as there is no comparison here. First photo looked like laurel leaves to me at first so you can see that I cannot make sense of leaf size!! By the way I don't think it is either.

Can see where you are coming from with forsythia, the actual stems have that knobbly look to them of forsythia but not so sure on the leaves, and if its never flowered can't be! Have the leaves got that reddy tinge on lately i.e. Autumn colour, or are they always that colour?

Still unsure of wether there's 2 pics of 2 different plants, but anyhow, autumn colour thing could be Deutzia...bottom line is Forsythia,Privet,Camellia,Deutzia whatever..... all ghastly old crap, shred it and get something nice! (Preferably native, even better something of use)..........Yeah I know Privet is native, but everybody needs provoking on boring Sunday afternoons.....yawn...

That sounds like most shrubs old jerry - and Forsythia is special precisely BECAUSE of when it flowers. Just as we are coming out of the gloom of winter and wham suddenly this huge blast of yellow to brighten our days. I have 4 of them and would be happy to have more. (And they turn a lovely colour in autumn). :flower:
